1 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured In Schaumburg Car Crash
The Monday afternoon crash involving two cars shut down the Route 53 southbound exit ramp to Woodfield Road.
SCHAUMBURG, IL — One person was killed and another was injured following a Monday afternoon two-car accident on West Frontage and Woodfield roads near Woodfield Mall. Cary Aiello, 51, of Schaumburg, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:29 p.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Schaumburg police said the driver of the other car involved, a 38-year-old man from Bartlett, was taken by the Schaumburg Fire Department to AMITA Health Alexian Borthers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village in stable condition. He was driving a Jeep.
A preliminary investigation indicates the Jeep was traveling southbound on West Frontage Road
and proceeded to the intersection at Woodfield. The Ford, driven by Aiello, was traveling eastbound on Woodfield Road, disregarded the red traffic control light, and entered into the intersection as the Jeep Cherokee was proceeding through the intersection with a green light. The Jeep struck the driver’s side of the Ford. Each vehicle was occupied by a driver and no
passengers.
