Driver Accused Of Slapping, Threatening To Break Boy's Legs After Ball Hits His Car Pleads Guilty

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — An Arlington Heights driver accused of running down, slapping and threatening to break the legs of a boy whose ball hit the man's car pleaded guilty Friday as part of a deal with prosecutors, the Daily Herald reports.
Richard Tannous, 29, originally was charged with aggravated battery to a child stemming from the October incident. But his agreement with prosecutors reduced the charge to misdemeanor battery, according to the Herald Times.
Tannous was sentenced to 24 months of conditional discharge and ordered to perform community service as part of the guilty plea, the report added.

On Oct. 20, prosecutors claim Tannous was driving in Rosemont when a ball struck his car while two boys were playing nearby. Tannous stopped his vehicle and was accused of chasing one of the boys.

He allegedly snatched the boy by his sweater, and he is accused of slapping and shoving him before threatening to break the boy's legs if it happened again. Tannous then drove off.
The boy contacted police about the incident after he saw Tannous driving in the area weeks later.
