Duo Accused Of Stealing Mail Across Chicagoland: Mount Prospect Police

Police have identified more than 40 victims of the felony crimes, most residing outside of Mount Prospect.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — Following a traffic stop last month for an unrelated charge, police found stolen packages and mail from multiple locations across the Chicagoland area in the car of two Park City residents. A subsequent investigation has identified more than 40 victims, most residing outside of Mount Prospect.

Stephanie Klus, 32, of the 3200 block of 7th Street, Park City, is accused of continuing a financial crimes enterprise (felony), possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of weapons and unlawful possession of a hypodermic substance. Edwin De Jesus, 49, of the 3200 block of 7th Street, Park City, is accused of continuing financial crimes enterprise (felony) and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. The duo were arrested earlier this week following an investigation that stemmed from the Jan. 26 traffic stop.

According to gang unit officers from the Mount Prospect Police Department, a car the two were traveling in was stopped at 7:50 p.m. Jan. 26, for multiple traffic violations in the 1800 block of West Palm Drive. While speaking to Klus, who was driving, and De Jesus, police learned there was drug paraphernalia in the car. A search of the vehicle resulted in locating numerous credit/debit cards, checks, mail, packages, driver’s licenses and a passport that did not belong to Klus or De Jesus. Police also found a stun gun, butterfly knife, brass knuckles and purported illegal drugs.

During the subsequent investigation, police discovered that Klus and De Jesus had stolen packages and mail from multiple locations across the Chicagoland area. They also reportedly used the stolen credit cards to make unauthorized purchases. As of now, police have been able to identify more than 40 victims.

Bond for both was set at $10,000. Klus is due back in court on Feb. 17, while the next court date for De Jesus is scheduled for March 3.
