WASHINGTON — Just over three years since the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, a Hoffman Estates man was sentenced Tuesday to six days in prison, along with 24 months of probation. Tyng Jing Yang will also need to pay $3,000 in restitution and fines, according to the United States Attorney's Office.

Yang was charged with interfering with law enforcement officers during a civil disorder, a felony, in November 2022.

Yang traveled from his home to Washington, D.C., to attend a rally at the Ellipse and show his support for former President Donald Trump. After the rally, Yang made his way to the U.S. Capitol and entered the building via the Upper West Terrance door at approximately 2:45 p.m.

According to court documents, Yang was among rioters illegally on the grounds of the Capitol when he entered the Capitol Building through the Upper West Terrace doors. Police said he then made his way up a flight of stairs and into a lobby area outside the Rotunda., before entering to pose for photos.

When law enforcement officers attempted to clear the crowd, police said Yang forcibly interfered by physically grabbing hold of an officer's baton. The officer had been using the baton to push back against others in the mob.
