'Known' Suspect Stabs Man At Arlington Heights Gas Station: Police

Police said another person was cut by the suspect's knife during the Tuesday night incident.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A man remains hospitalized in critical condition after being stabbed by a "known" suspect Tuesday night at an Arlington Heights gas station. Another person was cut during the incident, but has since been released from the hospital, as police continue searching for the suspect.

Police said they know the identity of the suspect. They added there is no indication he poses a current threat to the public. Preliminary evidence suggests this is an isolated incident.

At around 7:29 p.m. Tuesday, Arlington Heights police responded to a gas station in the 2200 block of S. Arlington Heights Road for a report of a man with a knife. Several individuals fled on foot prior to police arriving, according to a news release.

Arlington Heights Fire Department personnel joined the response, and upon arrival, began treating a male who was stabbed in the chest. Paramedics immediately took the man to a Level I Trauma Center, where he remains hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.

According to police, a second person received a superficial sharp-edged weapon injury to his arm. He was initially treated by paramedics and refused further care. A short time later, the person reconsidered and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation by a second ambulance crew. He was treated and has been discharged from the hospital.

Arlington Heights Police response included 20 patrol, K-9, detective and supervisory units who were supported by mutual aid from Buffalo Grove, Harper College, Palatine, Rolling Meadows and Wheeling police departments. Arlington Heights Fire Department responded with a Battalion Chief, 3 ambulances, Rescue Squad and Tower 1. AHFD was supported by Rolling Meadows Fire Department.

Police said the investigation remains "fluid" with an active crime scene. Arlington Heights Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau and forensic technicians are pursuing several investigative leads and processing multiple crime scenes.
