Man Who Strangled Pregnant Wife With Pillow, Sock And Towel Gets Probation

Justin Gorre, 27, of Arlington Heights, pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges in the attack. His sentence was part of a deal with prosecutors.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — An Arlington Heights man who admitted to strangling his pregnant wife by putting a pillow over her face, a sock in her mouth and a towel around her throat was sentenced to two years probation Tuesday, according to the Daily Herald.

Justin Gorre, 27, pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the Sept. 19 attack as part of a deal with prosecutors, the report stated. The original charges filed Sept. 23 were aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery to a pregnant woman, unlawful restraint, violation of an order of protection and interfering with a 911 report. Gorre could have faced up to seven years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Along with his probation, which requires intensive probation for the first year, Gorre's sentence also includes the following terms, the Herald reports:

  • an order of protection keeping Gorre from contacting his wife through March 1, 2021
  • wearing a GPS monitor for the first six months
  • a mental health evaluation
  • domestic violence counseling

According to prosecutors, Gorre attacked his wife, who was seven-months pregnant at the time, during an argument over his relationship with a female co-worker. Gorre used a pillow and towel to restrict the victim's breathing and forced a sock in her mouth to prevent her from screaming. The victim eventually escaped to a neighbor's house and called police after Gorre hid her cellphone.

Earlier this year, Gorre pleaded guilty to battery in connection with another incident involving his wife. During the sentencing, the judge threatened to send Gorre to prison if he violates his probation or faces a similar charge again, the Herald reports.
