Sketches of Suspects in Pet Shop's Double Dog Theft Released by Police

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Police have released sketches of the couple suspected of stealing two designer dogs worth more than $4,000 from a village pet shop.

The dogs — a Shih Tzu-poodle mix and a Havanese, both worth $2,065 each — were reported stolen from Happiness Is Pets Store, 15 W. Golf Road, by a clerk Monday, Jan. 30, according to Arlington Heights police. A man and woman entered the store together, wanting to buy a dog, and the clerk let the couple play with two canines in a pen.

After one of the dogs relieved itself in the pen, the clerk briefly left to get a mop to clean up the mess. When the clerk returned, the couple and the dogs were gone.

The couple is described as being either Middle Eastern or Indian and in their early 20s. The man is reported to be about 5 feet, 6 inches tall. Neither the man nor the woman were caught on security cameras.

Police worked with the clerk to create the forensic sketches. The dogs and the suspected couple also were possibly seen at a Schaumburg PetSmart, 1440 E. Golf Road, but no video footage of them was taken, police said.
