Following an investigation, police determined Crye was driving a Ford Escape south on Eola Road when he crossed the raised center median and crashed into a northbound car, which then slammed into a third car.

The occupants of all three cars were taken to a local hospital. Four days later, Nicole Dickerson, the driver of the car Crye hit, succumbed to her injuries, police said.

Crye was brought into custody Monday without incident. He must pay $200,000 in order to apply for bail.

His next court appearance for arraignment is set for June 16.

"This tragedy too could have been avoided had Mr. Crye simply called a cab, a ride sharing service or a friend for a ride instead of thinking he was fine to drive," Berlin said.
