5th DUI, Crash With Cop Car Gets Aurora Man 5 Years In Prison
Police say John C. Lundy, 48, rear-ended a cop car that was investigating another incident.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man has been sentenced to five years in prison after getting his 5th DUI in 2019. Authorities say John C. Lundy, 48, of the 900 block of Old Indian Trail, Aurora, had a blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) of .36 when he rear-ended an Aurora cop car during the March 25, 2019, incident.
Lundy pleaded guilty Friday to one felony count of aggravated DUI and will also have to pay $6,095 in restitution to make up for damages caused when he hit the squad car.
Police say Lundy was driving north on North Lake Street on March 25, 2019, when he came upon an Aurora police car that had pulled over for an unrelated investigation. Lundy, whose BAC was more than four times the legal limit at the time, did not stop and hit the rear of the police car.

In a statement, Kane County State's Attorney Joseph McMahon said, “Mr. Lundy’s decision to drive while he was highly intoxicated put a lot of people at risk and could well have killed someone. This prison sentence makes our streets a little safer for the next few years."
Lundy will get 457 days of credit for time served in Kane County Jail, police said.
