Aurora Dispatcher Honored For Work During Henry Pratt Shooting
Melissa Johnson handled emergency calls during the mass shooting on Feb. 15.
AURORA, IL — Melissa Johnson is one of the unsung heroes of the Feb. 15 shooting that claimed five lives at Henry Pratt Manufacturing in Aurora. Johnson, whose work is usually behind the scenes, recently stepped into the spotlight for her work as a dispatcher during the deadly shooting.
Mayor Richard Irvin recognized Johnson in his weekly update just after the two-month anniversary of the shooting, saying that she "has been lauded for work ethic and ability to bring calm to even the most intense situations."
Johnson has worked for the City of Aurora for more than 30 years and plans to retire in 2020.
