AURORA, IL — An Aurora man convicted of gun crimes is wanted by Aurora police after failing to appear in court for trial, causing him to be tried in absentia, officials at the Kane County State's Attorney's Office said Tuesday.

The case dates back to Jan. 23, 2019, when Aurora police served a search warrant at a house in the 1100 block of South Fourth Street, then the residence of Moses V. Williamson. During the search, officers found a Ruger Mark III .22-caliber handgun and multiple .22-caliber bullets, which Williamson admitted he owned, officials said.

Kane County Assistant State's Attorneys Lori Anderson and Jake Matekaitis presented the evidence, and the 33-year-old was found guilty of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Williamson had prior felony drug and robbery convictions that by law prohibited him from possessing a gun, according to the KCSA.

"I want to thank the Aurora Police Department’s Special Operations Group for obtaining and executing the search warrant in a successful and safe manner, while removing a loaded firearm from a convicted felon who had four young children living with him," Anderson said in a statement.

The last time Williamson appeared in court for the case was May 28, 2021, while he was free on bond, officials said. On July 9, he was charged with criminal damage to property, and Kane County Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo issued a warrant for the man's arrest after he failed to appear in court on Aug. 2.
