Aurora Man To Spend 'Rest Of His Life' In Prison For 2021 Murder: KSCA
Daniel Aguirre was convicted of first-degree murder, having fired the gun that killed a 32-year-old father in 2021, officials said.

AURORA, IL — Daniel Aguirre, the Aurora man convicted of fatally shooting a local 32-year-old man in 2021, was sentenced to 75 years in prison, officials announced Monday.
Aguirre, of the 800 block of South Loucks Street, was convicted of first-degree murder following a week-long trial in April. He fired the gun that killed Fernando Carapia in what officials believe to have been a gang-related shooting, Patch reported.
Just before 5 p.m. on Jan. 15, 2021, Aguirre and co-defendant Ivan Valles were driving together in the 300 block of South Hinman Street. The 25-year-old exited the passenger side, ran through a yard to the back of 311 S. Spencer St., and fired multiple shots, with several hitting Carapia, who was in the yard.

The victim was not the intended target nor was he a gang member, Patch reported.
"Daniel Aguirre decided to murder a rival gang member and instead killed Fernando Carapia," Assistant State's Attorney Lori Anderson said in a statemenet. "Fernando had nothing to do with street gangs. I hope the words spoken by Fernando's wife and brother-in-law during the sentencing hearing as they described the pain and anguish they feel from his absence made an impact on him."

Aguirre's sentence is comprises of 50 years for the murder charge plus a mandatory 25-year enhancement for personlly firing the gun that killed Carapia. He receives credit for the time served in the Kane County jail.
"Fernando was a beloved husband and father, needlessly murdered before he was able to meet his second son," Anderson said. "He was a victim of the senseless gang violence that continues to disrupt peaceful life in the city of Aurora. This 75-year sentence means Mr. Aguirre will spend the rest of his life in prison, so he’ll have a long time to think about his poor choices."
