Gang Shootout at Kid's Birthday Party Wounds 7: Aurora Police

Police said five men and two women were hurt in the mass shooting, but partygoers were "largely uncooperative."

AURORA, IL — Seven people were shot at a child's birthday party in Aurora in what police are calling a gang-related incident on Sunday. Police said officers responded to a home in the 300 block of West Park Avenue on the city's near west side just after midnight to find six people with gunshot wounds. A seventh person was taken to an Aurora hospital by a relative, police said.

The shooting happened during a child's birthday party, according to police.

Officials said that despite the fact that party attendees were "largely uncooperative," investigators were able to determine that the shooters arrived on bikes and on foot. The suspects fired multiple shots, then fled north on Grand Avenue, police said.

"The only suspect information we were able to gather is that the shots were fired by several males dressed in dark hooded sweatshirts," police said Sunday. "It also appears that someone at the party returned fire."

Police said five men — a 21-year-old, two 22-year-year-olds, a 25-year-old and 28-year-old — were shot, along with two women, ages 27 and 30. The 21-year-old is in critical condition.
