Hope D. Wall School Assistant Principal Gets Promoted

Melissa Yarbrough will lead the school as principal beginning with the next school year.

AURORA, IL — A new principal will begin at Hope D. Wall School beginning with the 2026-27 school year.

The West Aurora School District 129 Board of Education approved the appointment of Melissa Yarbrough, the school's current assistant principal, for the role at its April 6 meeting.

Yarbrough brings more than 25 years of experience in special education to the role. As assistant principal, she has led instructional improvement efforts, supported staff development and overseen systems that ensure compliance and effective service delivery for students with complex needs. She has also led the district's extended school year programming, ensuring aligned staffing, programming and compliance across special education settings.

During her career, she also served as a classroom teacher, developing individualized programming and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support student growth.

"I am honored to be recommended as the next principal of Hope D. Wall School and grateful to the SD129 Board of Education and Dr. Smith for their trust," Yarbrough said in a statement. "Having spent nearly three decades in West Aurora School District 129, I am committed to leading with purpose and continuing to build on the strong foundation already in place. I look forward to advancing our work to ensure every student is supported, challenged, and successful."

Yarbrough received her bachelor's degree in special education from Northern Illinois University and her master's in educational leadership from Aurora University.
