Oswego Man Charged With Murder In Triple Shooting At Aurora Bar

Police charged Serafin Castellanos, 38, with murder in connection with the 2017 shooting.

AURORA, IL — Police have charged an Oswego man in connection with a shooting that killed two men and injured a third at an Aurora bar in 2017. Serafin Castellanos, 38, was charged with four counts of first degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, police say.

The March 10, 2017 shooting killed Jermaine P. Taylor, 35, and Anselmo V. Fernandez, 57, both of Aurora. A third Aurora man sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, but now has permanent damage to his eye, police say.

According to police, Castellanos came up to Taylor and started shooting just before 1 a.m. as the bar was closing. Police say he shot Taylor multiple times and then continued to shoot as he ran.

Fernandez was fatally struck by the gunfire as he stood in the doorway to the bar and the third victim was hit by a bullet as he sat in his car.

Police are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting, but they believe Taylor was targeted.

U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force had been conducting surveillance of Castellanos and took him into custody Tuesday, police say.

Law enforcement is continuing the investigation and is not ruling out the possibility of additional suspects being involved, according to a Facebook post by Aurora Police.

Castellanos was previously charged in connection with a shooting and brawl at a Joliet bar in 2015. In October, he was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after reports of shots fired and a related crash on Orchard Road that left two people dead.
