Free Electronics Recycling Drive-Thru Coming Up In Aurora (patch.com) — Aurora residents will soon have a chance to clear out old electronics at a free drive-thru recycling event on Aug. 22 at the Route 59 Metra station. The city expects more than 2,000 participants and is accepting a wide range of household electronics, though large appliances, microwaves, and certain hazardous or medical items are excluded. Each vehicle may bring unlimited electronics but only two screens total.

Girl, 15, Reported Missing After Leaving Home Voluntarily: Aurora Police (patch.com) — Aurora police are asking for the public's help finding 15-year-old Ashley Velasquez-Carrera, who left her home voluntarily and was last seen early Sunday in the 300 block of South Broadway. Authorities shared her physical description and clothing details and are urging anyone with information to contact Aurora investigators by phone or email.
   

3. Marmion Academy in Aurora set to welcome girls as students for first time ever Monday as Catholic school becomes coed (abc7chicago.com subscription) — Marmion Academy in Aurora has officially gone coed, welcoming up to 80 freshman and sophomore girls as classes begin for its 94th school year. The Catholic-Benedictine prep school is rapidly building a full girls athletic program, from coaches to facilities, and expects to field seven girls sports this year. Students and staff say being the first class of girls brings both excitement and extra attention.
   

4. Aurora city employees demand a 'fair contract' as negotiations continue (chicagotribune.com) — Aurora city employees in AFSCME Local 3298 are pressing again for what they call a fair contract after 20 months of negotiations and an expired 2024 agreement. Workers are seeking higher wages, better leave and accommodations, while city officials cite budget challenges but promise competitive compensation. Union leaders say many members are women handling critical services like myAurora 311 calls and emergency requests.
   

5. Sugar Grove man gets 3 years of probation in hit-and-run death of neighbor (shawlocal.com) — A Sugar Grove man received three years of probation and other conditions after pleading guilty in the hit-and-run that led to his neighbor's death; she later died at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Aurora. The victim's family says the guilty plea acknowledges responsibility, and a separate wrongful-death civil case involving the driver is moving toward a confidential settlement.
