Roadside Safety Checks Will Happen In Aurora This Week: State Police

During the campaign, taking place June 25-26, Illinois State Police will be on the lookout for impaired drivers and people driving unsafely.

AURORA, IL — Illinois State Police will be parked on I-88 at the Illinois Route 31 Toll Plaza in Aurora conducting roadside safety checks June 25-26, officials announced Wednesday.

During the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, police will be on the lookout for drivers who are driving in an unsafe manner, with a suspended or revoked license or transporting open alcohol containers, officials said.

"The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois," officials said. "The use of RSCs combine a strong sense of public awareness and enforcement in order to save lives of the motoring public."

"Alcohol and drug impairment are factors in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois and throughout the U.S., nearly 10,000 people die each year due to alcohol-impaired driving," police said. "RSCs are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road. This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation."
