Rainfall Totals Over 4 Inches; Dry Weather Later This Week For IL
The Chicago area experienced flash flooding in many of its towns, as areas saw over 4 inches of rain on Sunday.
ILLINOIS — Most of the Chicago area saw between 3 and 4 inches of rain Sunday after a heavy downpour that lasted several hours. The National Weather Service said there was major flash flooding across the Chicago area, as well as two brief tornadoes near Sandwich and Braidwood.
The weather service said May has already had two calendar days with more than 3 inches of rain, and this May is on track to break rainfall records. On May 14, several towns reported over 3 inches of rain. Saturated conditions from the earlier rain contributed to flash flooding on Sunday.

Several roads across the area are still closed, according to IDOT. Road closures include:
- 31st Street, Sunnyside Avenue to US 45 in Hillside in Cook County
- 107th Street, US 45 to Kean Avenue in Willow Springs in Cook County
- US 6, LeClaire Avenue to IL 50 in Oak Forest in Cook County
- IL 7, 143rd Street to 135th Street in Orland Park in Cook County
- US 20 and IL 64 at INT 290 in Elmhurst in DuPage County
- IL 25, Stearns Road to Gilbert Street in South Elgin in Kane County
- US 41 at IL 60 in Lake Forest in Lake County
- US 41, Gage Lane to IL 176 in Lake Bluff in Lake County
- US 41 at IL 137 near North Chicago in Lake County
- IL 43 at Overlook Drive in Glenview in Cook County
- IL 53, Park Blvd to Arboretum in Glen Ellyn in DuPage County
- IL 59, US 30 to 135th Street in Plainfield in Will County
- I-90/94 westbound only ramp to I-290 westbound in Chicago in Cook County
- IL 171 southbound ramp to US 45 southbound in Willow Springs in Cook County
Scattered showers are expected Monday and Tuesday, but no heavy rain is expected, the weather service said. Monday will have a high of 66 degrees, and Tuesday a high of 68 degrees. After Tuesday, weather is expected to be dry and cloudy for the rest of the week.

Temperatures will get increasingly warmer by Friday, according to the weather service. Wednesday has a high of 70 degrees, Thursday has a high of 73 degrees, and Friday a high of 77 degrees.

MONDAY: Scattered showers, mainly after 1 p.m. Patchy fog before 10 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
MONDAY NIGHT: A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 55. North northeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
TUESDAY: A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 65. East northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. East northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny, with a high near 66. East northeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53.
THURSDAY: Partly sunny, with a high near 71.
