$13M Facility For Kane Co. Coroner, Sheriff Under Construction

The 55,000-square-foot building on the Kane County Judicial Center campus is set to be completed in early 2021, according to officials.

ST. CHARLES, IL — Construction crews recently broke ground on a new building for the Kane County coroner and sheriff's office after receiving more than $13 million in bond proceeds to fund the project, according to a news release.

The 55,000-square-foot facility, which is set to be completed in early 2021, will house the coroner's office and morgue, as well as equipment for the sheriff’s SWAT team and the county’s facilities management department. Aurora-based R.C. Wegman Construction was chosen to complete the project.

Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said his office’s Civil Division and Treasurer Dave Rickert worked with several financial institutions to secure $13.13 million in bond proceeds for the project. The bonds have an interest rate of 1.54 percent, McMahon said.
