AURORA, IL — After spending more than two weeks in an Aurora hospital, a local coronavirus survivor was given a moving send-off by health care workers as he was released. Lining both sides of a hall, staff at the Rush Copley Medical Center clapped and cheered the man on as he made his way to the exit doors after 18 days in the hospital, as seen in a video the hospital posted Saturday.

Aurora resident Tim Sitar, 59, was released from the hospital Thursday, according to a report from the Aurora Beacon-News. During his 18-day stay in the hospital, Sitar spent 10 days on a ventilator, the report states. Sitar’s wife, Lonnie, was also hospitalized for the coronavirus.

“They called me a miracle, a success story,” Sitar told the Beacon-News. “If it can encourage others, then I want to share that story.”
