All Sorts of Sports at BHS Athletic Extravaganza

A full slate of free athletic events will be held this Friday at Barrington High School.

After a long week, one of the best ways to unwind is to enjoy an evening watching Barrington’s best athletes perform, plus there is a chance to win a highly coveted prize.

The β€˜Post Final Exam Athletic Extravaganza’ which will be held at on Friday, Jan. 16,Β is a free evening of sports entertainment that will occupy every available inch of athletic space.Β  Not only are there four different sporting events scheduled, meaning there is something for everyone, but Barrington High School’s Key Club will be collecting nonperishable food items for a local food pantry.Β  If a student donates at least two items he/she will have a chance at a pair of Barrington Flip-Flops.

Kick starting the athletic portion of the evening will be the Boys’ Swimming and Diving team as they square off against MSL rival Fremd at 5 p.m.Β  A busy weekend for the Broncos as they have a quick turnaround and participate in the St. Charles invite the following day at 1 p.m.

The Bronco wrestling team will start their final meet of the regular season at 5:30 p.m., in the main gym.Β  With their impressive streak of regular season dual meet wins, the Broncos are not only hoping for a second straight undefeated season, but it is also Senior Night.Β  All senior wrestlers will be honored prior to the meet at 5:15 p.m.Β

Hitting the floorΒ at 6 p.m. will be the girls’ gymnastics team.Β  After a fourth place finish at the Lake County invite last week, the Fillies will use their match against Vernon Hill as a nice tune-up before next week’s MSL Meet and the upcoming regionals.

And the finale for the 'Post Final Exam Athletic Extravaganza' is a Broncos basketball clash with MSL co-leaders Schaumburg (4-1 in the MSL).Β  The Broncos (4-1), who are currently in a seven-game home stretch (2-1), would be in the driver’s seat for a repeat as conference champs with a win.Β  Barrington defeated the Saxons earlier this season 45-44 and another win would mean BarringtonΒ moved a step closer to theΒ West title andΒ hosting the MSL Championship.

Quite a bit is scheduled in just one day, but a nice end to a busy week where everyone wins, even the lucky student walking home in new footwear.
