Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk, Sunday Oct. 10
Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk will take place at Salem United Methodist Church, Sunday, October 10, raises funds to fight hunger

Looking to make a difference in our local community and in communities worldwide, the Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk will take place on Sunday, October 10. In its 39th year, the Walk helps end hunger and poverty through long-term sustainable approaches to significantly reduce or eliminate hunger. A portion of the funds raised in Barrington stays in our area benefiting the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the FISH Food Pantry--Carpentersville, BACOA Meals With Wheels, Wauconda-Island Lake Food Pantry, United Partnership for a Better Community Summer Lunch Program in Wauconda, Project HOPE, and the People in Need program of the Barrington Area Ministerial Association.
In 2019—before the start of the pandemic—more than 35 million people, including nearly 11 million children, were food insecure (had lack of access to sufficient food because of limited financial resources) according to Feeding America. Feeding America projects that 45 million people, including 15 million children, may have experienced food insecurity in 2020 and the organization projects that 42 million people, including 13 million children, may experience food insecurity in 2021.
And so the need is as great as ever. Your support will help Church World Service continue to address this food crisis by helping more families grow food at home; providing maternal and child health services; and investing in water, sanitation and hygiene. Twenty-five per cent of the funds raised will aid the local ministries listed above.

In the 38 year history of Barrington Area CROP Hunger Walk, over 13,300 walkers have raised almost $1.6 million. In 2020, the Barrington Area Walk raised over $30,000, making it the 48th highest in the country (out of nearly 600 Walks). It is hoped that this year, when the need remains so great, we will be able to exceed that amount.
