BARRINGTON, IL - A kindergarten teacher at Hough Elementary School in Barrington was honored during a surprise assembly at the school on Wednesday that included visits from Chicago Bears Chairman George McCaskey and Staley, the Bears' mascot. Jill Henning was recognized as a Symetra Hero in the Classroom, a program that honors 16 Chicago-area teachers every year during football season for outstanding leadership and instruction skills.

Henning was nominated for the award by a fellow teacher and the parent of one of her students, according to a news release from District 220. She will receive a $2,000 donation for Hough Street Elementary, a “Heroes” award certificate, two tickets to a Bears regular season game, in-game video recognition and a pre- game VIP sideline experience.

The assembly marked the first moment Henning knew she was a recipient of the award.
