Man Critically Injured in ATV Rollover Crash on Christmas Day

A 7-year-old passenger on the ATV was treated at the scene of the crash but not taken to the hospital.

A 43-year-old North Barrington man was critically injured when he swerved to avoid hitting a dog and crashed an ATV on Christmas Day in North Barrington.

The rollover crash occurred in the 100 block of North Ravine Lane at about 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation shows an ATV driven by the 43 year-old North Barrington man was traveling north on Ravine Lane with a 7-year-old passenger. While traveling north, the driver of the ATV swerved to avoid hit the dog, which caused the ATV to roll. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing helmets.

The driver of the ATV was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening injuries. The seven year-old passenger was treated on-scene by paramedics but was not transported to the hospital, according to a news release.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
