Retired Barrington Elementary School Principal Earns Prestigious Award
Cindy Kalogeropoulos won the Lifetime Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership.

BARRINGTON, IL -- A retired principal at Grove Avenue Elementary School was selected for the prestigious U.S. Department of Education award.
Cindy Kalogeropoulos won the Lifetime Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership, District 220 school officials announced this past week.
“Recipients of this award have transformed their schools,” according to a statement from District 220 posted on the school district’s Facebook page. “Their vision and collaborative leadership styles have produced outstanding results for all students, regardless of race, language proficiency, or socioeconomic status. They have shown that – with effective leadership and teaching and a firm conviction – all students can learn.”

Kalogeropoulos, also known as Dr. K, is the only principal in the country to ever earn three National Blue Ribbon Schools recognitions for one building. Grove earned the award under her leadership in 1992, 2007 and 2016.
She will be honored in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 7.
