Stolen Car May Have Ties to Luxury Car Thefts in Barrington, Other Affluent Suburbs

A vehicle stolen from Bolingbrook appears to have ties to other car thefts in the Chicago suburbs.

At least 70 luxury vehicles have been stolen from 40 wealthy suburbs, including Barrington, Hinsdale and Lake Forest, according to NBC Chicago.

18-year-old Paul O’Neal was shot and killed by Chicago police after he allegedly stole a Jaguar convertible from Bolingbrook. Chicago police believe the car O'Neal stole was connected to other suburban car thefts.

"After these bad guys steal these cars, we're finding them back here on the South Side of Chicago,” Chicago Police Lt. Edward Wodnicki told NBC Chicago. “They are not chopping them up, but using them in gang crimes."

Around 15 people have been arrested so far in connection to the thefts. Police believe cars were used for armed robberies and shooting at other gang members.
