Fat Tommy's Plans Benefit For Kara Kares Foundation

Fifteen percent of proceeds at Fat Tommy's on Jan. 12 will go to the foundation established in memory of Kara McNicholas.

CHICAGO - Fat Tommy's hot dog restaurant in Mount Greenwood will host a benefit this month for the Kara Kares Foundation, an effort to provide educational assistance in memory of a neighborhood resident and nursing student who was killed last year.

Dubbed an "Eat and Earn" event, 15 percent of sales on Saturday, Jan. 12 will go to the foundation that was established in memory of Kara McNicholas. McNicholas was a young Mount Greenwood resident and nursing student who was found dead on a block in the city's Marquette Park neighborhood in May of 2018. She was strangled, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has said.

One of McNicholas' favorite restaurants was Fat Tommy's, a neighborhood favorite at the corner of 111th and Whipple in Mount Greenwood.
