7 Arrested After Police Standoff in Blue Island

A confrontation in the alley preceded a standoff with police near 119th and Longwood Wednesday morning.

UPDATE, 3:30 p.m.: BLUE ISLAND, IL - A barricade situation that included a stand-off with police near 119th and Longwood in Blue Island Wednesday morning resulted in the arrest of seven people, the Daily Southtown reports.

The situation began around 4:30 a.m. when a man driving in the alley behind the block tried to maneuver around a parked car and was threatened by a man with a gun not to touch the car, according to the Southtown report. When the driver left the alley and drove to the front of the house to find the address to alert police, another man exited another car with a gun. The showdown with police occurred after the victim was able to drive away from the scene.

State and local police agencies responded to a home near 119th and Longwood in the near south suburb around 10 a.m. to the situation, according to an ABC-7 News report. Residents of homes on the street were ordered to stay inside until the situation ended nearly 40 minutes later.

A Blue Island police officer confirmed just before noon that the situation has been resolved and no one is in any danger. More information should be available later.

A tweet from Roseanne Tellez of CBS indicated a smoke bomb was used by authorities during the situation.
