Wanted Man Not Charged With 'Mount Greenwood' Threat
Ronald Williams of Lansing was taken into custody on an outstanding Cook County warrant, but won't face charges over a social media threat.

CHICAGO, IL - Chicago police say the man who made an apparent social media threat against a young person wearing Chicago Police Department clothing late last month won't be charged in connection with the threat, but was taken into custody on an unrelated warrant.
Police held Ronald Williams, 35, of southeast suburban Lansing on an outstanding Cook County warrant after taking him into custody in connection with the alleged threat on Feb. 1.
According to a police officer at the Chicago Police Department's News Affairs desk, it was Williams who tagged a photo of himself in "Mount Greenwood" on Jan. 27. In the corner of a photo showed a young male, possibly a child but that's not been confirmed, wearing Chicago Police Department apparel.

The post allegedly made by Williams read, in part, "The boy in this picture is probably innocent, bout as innocent as Tamir rice, LaQuan McDonald, Sandra bland, etc. let's hope they stop the Genocide on my people, before the next shots we take aren't with cameras."
It included a reference to "Mount GreenWood" as "a racist (expletive) town in Chicago."

Moderators of local neighborhood watch groups told Patch that the post was tagged at a pizza restaurant on 111th Street in the Beverly/Morgan Park area of the 22nd Police District. It was made on Jan. 27, but did not circulate on local groups such as Mt. Greenwood Watch and 19th Ward News until the first of February.
Police said Williams was ultimately not charged with anything related to social media.
According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Williams was officially taken into custody on Feb. 2. His warrant out of Cook County appears to have been narcotics-related. He has served previous sentences for manufacturing cannabis and being a felon in possession of a weapon, according to his criminal history on the IDOC website.
