• Bloomington Public Works crews working overtime to clean up storm damage (centralillinoisproud.com) — Bloomington crews are working overtime this week to clear massive storm debris, with more than 1,000 loads already collected and hundreds of hanging limbs still to address across the city. Residents are urged to report dangerous-looking hanging branches to the city's forestry team at 309-434-2220 so they can prioritize safety in affected neighborhoods. 
• New season, new classification for two-time state volleyball runner-up Central Catholic (centralillinoisproud.com) — Central Catholic's volleyball team in Bloomington is chasing a third straight state trip as it moves up from Class 2A to tougher Class 3A this season. Despite graduating several key starters, the Saints return all-state hitter Kampbell Niephagen and say close calls in the last two state title games have made them hungrier. Players and coaches expect a challenging schedule but feel ready for new venues and opponents.
• Nonprofit completes renovation of old McLean water tower (wglt.org) — A Bloomington-based muralist, Troy Freeman of FreeSky Studios, created the colorful new artwork on McLean's restored water tower, now a Route 66 attraction drawing more visitors. The nonprofit CORE of McLean led the years-long effort to save and refurbish the tower, funded partly through its annual "Get Your 6.6 on Route 66" run. Organizers hope the project spurs more small businesses and amenities in the village.
