Dispute Leads To Bent Glasses, Apology: Buffalo Grove Police Blotter

Two motorists were involved in a road rage incident that spilled out of the road and into a parking lot, according to police.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

James Robert Ziah, 67, of the 2500 block of E. Hartford Court, Arlington Heights, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, felony aggravated driving under the influence causing great bodily harm, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, median violation, failure to reduce speed, and was arrested at 7:43 p.m. Oct. 21, at Arlington Heights and McHenry roads. Police responded to a three-car accident. The driver of one of the cars sustained two broken ribs and a laceration to his lung. A court date of Oct. 22 was assigned.

Jason J. Zhivotovsky, 18, of the 100 block of Old Oak Drive, Buffalo Grove, is accused of defacing the identification mark of a firearm, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, resisting a peace officer, and was arrested at 11:36 p.m. Oct. 21, in the 1600 block of Henley Court, Wheeling. Adam Thomas Rodriguez-Barron, 18, of the 1800 block of S. Green Street, Palatine, is accused of resisting a peace officer, and was also arrested. Police saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and performed a traffic stop in the 800 block of Cambridge Drive. The two men exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Police eventually apprehended the two men and found a Smith and Wesson M&P 380 Shield EZ with attached laser, two large knives, cannabis paraphernalia including a digital scale and a metal grinder, two rolled cigars containing suspect cannabis, and one rolled joint containing suspected cannabis.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT

A manager at Woodman's Market called police at 5:38 p.m. Oct. 21, to report a man had stolen $28.63 worth of groceries earlier in the day. According to surveillance video, the man scanned a few items and paid for them. He then stuffed the rest of the unpaid items into the same bag as the paid items, and walked out of the store. The store did not want to pursue any charges, but wanted the man to pay for his owed balance and be trespassed from the store. After being contacted by police, the man agreed to this arrangement.

TRAFFIC DISPUTE

Police responded to a reported traffic dispute at 11:23 a.m. Oct. 21, in the 1500 block of E. Deerfield Parkway. The road rage incident occurred near one address and then carried over to a parking lot nearby. While in the parking lot, one of the involved parties exited his vehicle and approached the other, attempting to open his car door. When reaching inside the door, he struck the other party in the face, knocking his glasses off. The latter requested an apology and $100 for the bent eyeglasses in lieu of filing battery charges. The two agreed to the arrangement and left the parking lot peacefully, according to police.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

Police responded at 8:35 p.m. Oct. 21, to Acacia Terrace to a burglary where a pickup truck was parked in the driveway. By the time the police arrived, the truck was gone. Officers searched the area with negative results and found no apparent signs of forced entry.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

A resident in the 900 block of Chaucer Way reported someone had entered her vehicle during the overnight hours of Oct. 20. She said at 8:30 a.m. her neighbor came by her house and told her that her work ID was left on the front lawn. The resident said the work ID is usually hanging inside her vehicle. She did not believe anything was missing. She did not remember if the car was locked, but there were no signs of forced entry.

VANDALISM

A resident in the 800 block of Woodhollow Lane called police at 10:21 p.m. Oct. 21, to report a vandalism incident that had occurred in her backyard. She said she heard "thumping" at around 10:15 p.m. When she went outside to investigate, she found toilet paper, eggs, ketchup, shaving cream and a can of beans splattered across the back of her house, the roof and insider her air conditioning unit. There was also an extensive amount of grocery products stuck to the walls and the ceiling. There was an entire can of baked beans dumped inside the air conditioning unit.

JUVENILE NUISANCE

Police responded at 10:45 p.m. Oct. 21, to the area of Hawthorne Road and Patton Drive to a report of juveniles in the area knocking over Halloween decorations. A resident told police they had heard several loud bangs outside, got up and saw five juveniles running across his lawn from Patton Drive.
