Ad For Free Grill Confuses Owner: Buffalo Grove Police Blotter

A resident called police when a woman showed up to their house and began taking a Weber grill from the backyard.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED/REVOKED

Leroy Jesse Wright, 30, of the 1600 block of Arlington Lane, Gurnee, is accused of driving on a suspended license, speeding (52 mph in a 35 mph zone), and was arrested at 5:43 p.m. Sept. 2, at Raupp Boulevard and Bernard Drive. He was released after posting bond.

BOND FORFEITURE WARRANT

Daniel Ruiz Santamaria, 32, of the 800 block of Juneway Avenue, Deerfield, had a warrant out of Kane County for bond forfeiture, and was arrested at 11:35 p.m. Sept. 5, in the 50 block of W. Lake Cook Road. Police saw Santamaria driving without a properly-fastened seatbelt, which prompted the traffic stop. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of Sept. 20.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Selvakumar Ramasubbu, 44, of the 1100 block of Larraway, Buffalo Grove, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, and was arrested at 4:30 a.m. Sept. 6, in the 1100 block of N. McHenry Road. He was released after posting a $3,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Sept. 21.

INCIDENTS

THEFT

  • A citizen called police to report their unsecured bicycle had been stolen at around 6:30 p.m. Aug. 30, behind a restaurant in the 1100 block of McHenry Road. The citizen didn't have any details to identify the bicycle other than saying it was red. The person was seen on camera riding the bicycle toward the residences north of the restaurant.
  • A customer at Mariano's, 450 W. Half Day Road, reported at 3:02 p.m. Sept. 2, she was shopping near the store's deli when she left her wallet, which was within her purse, in the shopping cart and walked away. She said when she returned to the cart, her wallet was missing from her purse.

VANDALISM

An area-wide custodian at Kilmer Elementary School called police at 7:20 a.m. Sept. 1, to report someone damaged a metal collar mounted around the electrical box meter and vandalized the electrical box with graffiti at Kilmer Park, 758 Golfview Terrace, Buffalo Grove. It is unknown when the vandalism occurred.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

  • A resident in the 300 block of Red Bud Place reported at 6:53 p.m. Sept. 1, that a woman on their property was taking their grill. Upon arrival, police spoke to the woman, who was loading a green Weber grill into her vehicle in front of the home. She said she was responding to a listing on Craigslist in which someone was advertising the grill was free. The woman showed police text messages corroborating her story, along with a generic image of the grill. While speaking to the woman, another person approached the home, saying they were responding to the grill. Police found damage to the grill caused by the woman attempting to put it in her car. The homeowner told police they had not placed an ad for the grill on Craigslist.
  • A citizen reported that at 11 p.m. Sept. 1, he was driving northbound on Raupp to westbound on Bernard. He said that when he made the left turn, he saw a large black SUV at the stop sign in the eastbound lane of Bernard and Raupp. The citizen said as he was passing the SUV, he noticed the back passenger window open. He then heard three things hit his driver's side window. He believed the passenger of the SUV shot BBs at his car. There was no damage to the car, but he did find spots where the BBs hit his window.

RETAIL THEFT

A store director at Mariano's, 450 W Half Day Road, called police at 1:20 p.m. Sept. 3, to report a customer alerted staff that two men walked out of west side entrance door with a cart full of merchandise and didn't pay for it. A manager went outside and saw the men loading merchandise inot the trunk of a black Chrysler 300. When confronted, the men left the merchandise and drove off. The recovered merchandise, totaling $793.39, included bottles of alcohol, cat litter, paper towels and toilet paper.
