Police Label Deadly Dover Street Fire Arson

The house fire claimed the life of a 7-year-old girl.

The Dover Street house fire that claimed the life of a young girl was intentionally set, according to police.

A police report on the Friday fire referred to the deadly blaze as an arson. The police released no further details on the fire that killed 7-year-old Mia Sykes and did not respond to calls for comment.

Firefighters responded to the burning building about 9:45 that morning. Sykes’ mother was outside and told them her daughter was still in the house. Sykes was found unconscious inside her home.

Sykes was taken to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center but pronounced dead in the emergency room within a few hours of arriving.
