This spring, Creative Root was awarded a Creative Schools Fund grant supporting a new partnership with Amundsen High School. Through the Theatre 360 residency, more than 100 students in grades 9–12 are participating in a 12-session immersive theatre program centered around Mirror of Most Value: A Ms. Marvel Play. Students work directly with professional teaching artists and Theatre School students to explore acting, storytelling, voice, movement, dramaturgy, and design while developing their own creative voices. Creative Root programs are aligned with Illinois Fine Arts and Social Emotional Learning standards and can be customized for in-school or after-school partnerships throughout the city.

There's something fitting about a hotel called LondonHouse throwing Chicago's best summer garden party. This season, LondonHouse is leaning into the warmest months with an afternoon tea that brings a picnic-inspired spread with river views, seasonal bites from Executive Chef Liz Sweeney and Pastry Chef Thomas Gorczyca.<h2>The Menu</h2>
The savory tier is built for the season. Highlights include the Crab Cake with burnt orange hollandaise and green mango relish; Beet and Cucumber Salad with honey chèvre; and a Devil Egg Cannoli with caviar and chili oil.&nbsp;
On the sweet side, you'll experience the brightness and freshness the summer months rare known for. Roasted Strawberry Scone, Lemon Blueberry Poundcake, Blueberry Cheesecake Profiterole with local blueberries, and a Strawberry Key Lime Tart.&nbsp;
The spread arrives in two acts: arriving first are the scones and pastries tucked into a lined basket, with strawberry chamomile preserves, lemon curd, and clotted cream on the side. Followed by a three-tiered tower filled with savory and sweet bites.
<h2>The Tea</h2>
The tea program is curated by Rare Tea Cellar, Chicago's specialty tea purveyor. Summer selections include Emperor’s Lemon Meritage with lemon leaves and lemon peels, Berry Meritage with currant and hibiscus, and a clean, classic Chamomile with a classic apple-like flavor and fragrance. You can always opt to add a refreshing glass of bubbles or a cocktail, as well!<h2>The Setting</h2>
LondonHouse sits at Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive, directly above the Chicago River. Our Summer Afternoon Tea makes full use of this location. The space features floor-to-ceiling windows with great light and panoramic river views. Think of it as the city's most elegant garden party with no lawn required.
<h2>Kids Tea</h2>
A $50 Kids Tea runs alongside the main menu and features Chicken Skewers, Meatball Sliders, Strawberry Key Lime Tart, and the Homer D'ohnut. A low-pressure option for a special occasion that the whole table can enjoy.

Northshore Concert Band presents American Dreams: A Program Inspired by the Enduring Ideals of the American Dream: Liberty, Peace, Justice, Integrity, Resilience, and Hope.
Commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, Northshore Concert Band concludes its platinum anniversary season with a program that honors values that have shaped the nation and continue to inspire today.
Featuring music by Kevin Day, Julie Giroux, William Schuman, Fisher Tull, and Edwin Franko Goldman, the program celebrates themes of liberty, healing, duty, character, perseverance, and optimism through bold fanfares, reflective meditations, energetic portrayals of 1930s New York, and spirited marches that honor the enduring American spirit while bringing the season to a jubilant close.
The evening opens with Let Freedom Ring, a stirring tribute to liberty, where bold brass and radiant percussion that embody the resolve of the American people. Let Freedom Ring, an arrangement of My Country ‘tis of Thee, was penned as part of an audition for U.S. Marine Band staff arranger by SSgt. Ryan Nowlin and was performed by the Marine Band on January 21, 2013, at the second inaugural of President Barack Obama.
Kevin Day’s A Hymn for Peace follows with a reflective meditation on healing and renewal in the wake of personal and collective struggle. Written during a difficult period to promote mental health awareness and inner peace, it features intense, melodic, and cinematic moments.
Composed in 1971, Fisher Tull's beautiful and haunting Sketches on a Tudor Psalm, is based on a sixteenth century setting of the Second Psalm by Thomas Tallis. 
 “Integrity First,” from Julie Giroux’s No Finer Calling, draws on the ideals at the heart of the United States Air Force in a bold fanfare, processional, and march. Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the United States Air Force (1947-2007), No Finer Calling is a symphony in three movements based on the United States Air Force Core Values of “Integrity First,” “Service Before Self,” and “Excellence In All We Do.”
The program turns to music inspired by American perseverance during the Great Depression. George Washington Bridge captures the drive and vitality of 1930s New York City, portraying it as a symbol of innovation, hope, and opportunity. William Schuman set this work in a bridge-like arch form comprised of three large sections to evoke several images of the bridge from different perspectives. 
To conclude both the concert and the platinum season, Goldman’s Cheerio March delivers a jubilant finish, celebrating the optimism and spirit that music can sustain in every era.

Circumstances often present what appear to be significant obstacles to living freely, something that everyone wants to do. Whatever it is that seems to stand between us and the full range of motion that we would like to have in our lives&nbsp;— it’s not so much the presenting impediment that is the problem — it’s not knowing how or where to access our God-given liberty.
To live a life of liberty, we have to find the nature and substance of liberty, which is spiritual, purposeful, unburdened, and given to all. To do that you have to know where to look, to the source of liberty&nbsp;— God, good itself, all-inclusive.
In this talk, we will examine liberty from a Biblical perspective; and see how real people today find their freedom from all kinds of physical, emotional and circumstantial restrictions that seem clearly beyond their control so that they may Be Set Free.

Gold Coast Sounds Good Choir

Chicagoland's largest no-audition choral program for adults "55 and better" has nine choirs throughout Chicago and the suburbs, including the Gold Coast. Conducted by Jonathan Miller, the choir rehearses and performs at the beautiful, historic Fourth Presbyterian Church on Chicago's Magnificent Mile, 126 E. Chestnut Ave. Three sessions a year are offered -- two 15-week sessions in the fall and spring, and one 8-week session in the summer). All sessions include: a weekly 90-minute rehearsal with an additional (optional) online Friday rehearsal; guidance and instruction by professional conductors and accompanists; licensed sheet music; accessible rehearsal and performance venues; and free, public performances by each choir. Registered singers are also free to rehearse and perform with as many of the nine choirs as they wish for just one registration fee per session. Scholarships are readily available -- call the Sounds Good office at 630.395.9542 to apply. Sounds Good Choir also offers the only choir in Illinois for adults with early-stage dementia and their care partners. The Good Memories program is specifically designed to provide a safe, welcoming community in which to sing, socialize, and have fun.
