Oops! Cubs Fans Cheer for the Wrong Team Leaving Wrigley Field

That's OK. The Cleveland Indians probably needed cheering up after losing Sunday's World Series game.

CHICAGO, IL — Cubs fans were so filled with joy — and probably a good deal of alcohol — over Chicago's World Series victory Sunday night that they mistakenly cheered the wrong team leaving Wrigley Field.

That's right, a Cleveland.com video posted on YouTube on Monday captured Cubs backers standing behind Chicago police barricades and clapping and hollering as buses carrying the Cleveland Indians slowly inched their way out of Wrigleyville behind a patrol cruiser escort. The crowds gathered outside the ballpark treated the defeated players in a manner reserved for rock stars, conquering generals and teams that just won a tight fifth game of the World Series and need two consecutive victories to capture a league title.

The Cubs beat the Indians, 3-2, in Game 5 of the World Series on Sunday. It was Chicago's first World Series victory at Wrigley Field since 1945. The series now moves to Cleveland for Game 6 on Tuesday and, if necessary, Game 7, which is set for Wednesday.

The Cubs fans' errant cheering might've ended up online, but at least it didn't spawn a Twitter hashtag and earn segments on national sportscasts.
