'1950s Christmas Living Room' on Display Through January at Historical Society Museum

UNION – The McHenry County Historical Society’s 1950s Christmas living room exhibit remains on display through January.

Visitors are invited to glimpse Christmas Past at the historical society’s museum, 6422 Main St., in Union. Guests can see the room by appointment.

Historical Society Board member Dave Harms, of Crystal Lake, has created another "must-see" display featuring bubble lights and heat-activated ornaments on the tree, a working Lionel train set, a fireplace with artificial crackling logs, Christmas stamps, a working “snow” machine, holly patterned china, one-of-a-kind furniture, vintage greeting cards and wrapping paper, extended-play 45 Christmas records and a myriad of board games, according to historical society release.

Harms has designed holiday displays at the museum for the past six years. He has collected Christmas memorabilia since 1980 and has been a member of Golden Glow of Christmas Past, a worldwide club for collectors of antique Christmas items for more than 30 years, according to the historical society.

The display also will be available for viewing during the Quilt Cutting & Potluck, which starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, a the museum.
