Camp Like a Girl - Girl Scout Camp Registration Open to All Girls!
Prospective campers are encouraged to register as soon as possible since most sessions fill up quickly. Registration is available online at http://www.girlscoutsni.org/.
When Juliette Gordon Low founded Girl Scouts in 1912, she did so with an appreciation for the environment and the skills girls learn through outdoor recreation. Now 100 years later, Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is delivering a unique camping program for all girls that incorporates Low’s love of nature along with adventures for girls in 2012!
Today’s Girl Scout camp experience includes things your grandmother did—such as taking nature hikes, canoeing and swimming, along with things relevant to today’s girls such as acting, electrical engineering, traveling and…swimming—some things never change! Prospective campers are encouraged to register as soon as possible since most sessions fill up quickly. Registration is available online at http://www.girlscoutsni.org/.

Imagine Engineering

Forensic scientist, electrical engineer and environmental scientist—sound like interesting careers? Girls will learn how to extract DNA from a banana, build a switch and make a simple fountain.
Deep Sea Divers
June 17-22; $400

Girls entering 8-10 grades
Love the water and want to do more than swim? Girls will spend the week learning to snorkel and SCUBA dive with trained diving instructors.
TechBridge Thrill Camp

Girls will be able to experiment with making “simple” machines before taking on a project to create the ultimate thrilling theme park!
Casting Call

Lights! Camera! ACTION! Girls will try their hands at different acting styles, including improve and storytelling, before taking a trip to see a local play!
Windy City Woman

Girls will explore the city of Chicago by day and Camp Dean by night. Campers will board the train each day and venture off to the city to visit a museum, see a play, eat at the Taste of Chicago or discover other awesome city attractions. Session fee covers train and admission fees!
Canoes, Kayaks and Rafts
July 8-13; $350

Girls entering 8-12 grades
Girls will start off their week by practicing a paddling stroke on the Camp Dean pond before heading out on an overnight rafting trip. Campers should have canoeing/kayaking experience and be comfortable in deep water.

Girls will saddle up three times at White Pines Ranch to learn riding, grooming and other horse care. After riding, girls will be able to participate in all other camping activities.

Research has confirmed camps build skills necessary to prepare youth to assume roles as successful adults. Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois’ camps provide a safe environment for girls and families to enjoy traditional camping activities such as swimming, archery, crafts, and nature exploration along with specialized programs including environmental awareness.
About Camp Dean
Camp Dean has 160 acres of wetlands, woodlands and prairies for campers to explore. Located in Big Rock, Illinois, about an hour west of Chicago, Camp Dean offers a unique camp setting for girls that is far enough for adventure and independence but still feels close to home. The facilities include four program centers, grassy sports fields, pool, private lake, trails, creek, dining hall, health center, camp office and more.

Camp McCormick has over 400 acres of wood and meadows and is located a few miles south of Rockford in Stillman Valley, about 1 ½ hours northwest of Chicago. Camp Facilities include a central dining hall, outdoor pool, showers, craft building, health center, hiking trails, covered wagons, Adirondacks and platform tents.
