Cary Physical Therapy Continues Partnership with Norge Ski Club

CARY PHYSICAL THERAPY CONTINUES PARTNERSHIP WITH NORGE SKI CLUB

For a second year, Cary Physical Therapy continues to partner with Norge Ski Club of Fox River Grove. The ongoing mission is to increase performance and improve safety of the Junior Program members. Norge is the oldest continuously open ski club in the United States and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2005. The junior ski jumpers are ranked nationally with Olympic potential. Cary Physical Therapy, who has been serving the Cary – Fox River Grove community for over 20 years, has devised a screening assessment specifically for these athletes. The therapists are applying their expertise as movement specialists in creating customized exercises for the jumpers.

The program includes Pilates stretching, and strengthening exercises, balance and coordination activities. “These kids are great to work with because they are highly motivated”, says Deb Gulbrandson, owner of Cary Physical Therapy. “Our job is not to teach technique, which is the coaches’ domain. Our job is to determine the physical limitations which prevent the jumper from complying and design an exercise program to correct those faulty movement patterns!” In addition to the training, Cary Physical Therapist, Todd Wallace will lend his expertise in analyzing videos of the jumpers as they take off, fly, and land. Says Gulbrandson, “My husband, Gil was a jumper in his younger years. His grandparents used to throw big ski jump parties back in the 30s and 40s. This is a great way we can give back to the community”.
