Cat, Dog Rescued From House Fire Near Crystal Lake
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL -- Firefighters rescued a dog and cat from a house fire Tuesday near Crystal Lake. Fire crews were first called to the 9000 block of Ballard Road at about 5 p.m. on Sept. 11 for reports of smoke coming from the rear of a single-story ranch-style home in unincorporated Crystal Lake. Firefighters first at the scene found the blaze coming from a bathroom and attic space adjacent to the room, according to a news release.
No one was home at the time and firefighters were able to get the dog and cat safely out of the home. Neither of the animals was injured and have been reunited with their owners, fire officials said.
The blaze caused $50,000 in damages and the home has been deemed uninhabitable.
