Cause Of Death Released For Missing McHenry Man Found In Fox River
Gustavo Guzman-Perez, 28, was found dead in the Fox River on May 3.
MCHENRY, IL — The cause of death for a 28-year-old McHenry man who went missing in April, and was found dead in the Fox River weeks later, has been released. A final autopsy completed by the McHenry County Coroner's Office shows the cause of death for Gustavo Guzman-Perez is drowning, the coroner's office announced Monday.
The manner of death has still not been determined, and an investigation remains open into Guzman-Perez's death, according to the coroner's office news release. The coroner's office is working with the McHenry County Sheriff's Office and the McHenry Police Department to investigate the manner of Guzman-Perez's death.
An investigation into Guzman-Perez's death has been ongoing since May 3 when a boater spotted a body just off the shore in the Fox River in the 2000 block of South Fernwood Lane and called police. The body was identified as Guzman-Perez, 28, who was first reported missing on April 22

He was last seen at about 2 a.m. on April 22 near a home in the 3000 block of West Virginia Avenue in McHenry. The following day, about 60 volunteers trained in search and rescue, an aerial drone and police dogs were used to search an area covering 665 acres in and around the McHenry Country Club.
A McHenry Township Fire Protection District boat was used to search the Fox River from Route 120 to the McHenry Dam area as authorities worked to find Guzman-Perez.

At the time, police said there was no reason to suspect foul play was a factor in Guzman-Perez's death.
