Coroner IDs 2 Killed In Weekend Crash: UPDATE

Two children in one of the vehicles were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash and were seriously injured.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL – The McHenry County Coroner has identified the man and woman killed Sunday in a head-on crash on Route 47 near Hebron. The driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Jose Rodriguez, 42, of Marengo, was heading south on Route 47 south of Vanderkarr Road Sunday afternoon when a northbound 2009 Kia Rio headed into the southbound lane. The two vehicles crashed, and Rodriguez and the driver of the Kia, Falynn M. Hironimus, 29, of Hebron, were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski.

The crash drew emergency personnel from 10 different fire protection districts to the scene at 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, according to authorities. Police said it is unclear why the Kia entered the southbound lane of traffic.

Besides Rodriguez, there were three other occupants in the Chevrolet: a 39-year-old Hebron woman, a 12-year-old Marengo girl and a 9-year-old Marengo girl. The children were both sitting in the backseat but were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. Rodriguez and the Hebron woman, who was in the front passenger side, were wearing their seat belts and airbags did deploy at the time of the crash.
