Coroner IDs Pedestrian Killed by Metra Train as Crystal Lake Teen

​The 17-year-old boy was hit by a Metra train in Cary Tuesday evening.

A 17-year-old Crystal Lake boy has been identified as the person killed by a Metra train in Cary on Tuesday evening.

The teen, whose name is not being released, was seen running “into an eastbound commuter train” just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a news release from the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. His body was found northwest of the railroad crossing at Three Oaks Road near Route 14, according to police. He was pronounced dead at 5:55 p.m. by Cary Fire and Rescue.

An autopsy performed Wednesday revealed the teen died from multiple blunt traumatic injuries, according to the coroner’s office. The incident remains under investigation by the Cary Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
