The Dole Mansion Gallery features works in oil by artist Gloria J. Zucaro. Gloria is a member of the following artist organizations: The Oil Painters of America, The Chicago Pastel Painters, Contemporary Fine Art International, The Daily Paintworks and Xanadu. Her paintings tell a story: melancholy Southwest scenes, unusual sculptural trees, the colors in a sunset. Lately, she has been painting little collectibles and combining them with flowers, fruit or eggs. Sometimes she creates a series of up to three paintings about a recurring idea, like the green tile her kitchen counter combined with a figurine, an old barn or even a Martian in a space ship! This year – after an inspiring workshop with artist Carol Marine she started creating smaller paintings for her new blog, producing many different subjects in a week. She loves the texture of oil paint and the vibrant hues of pastel. Subjects with sharp contrast and lots of color are what attract her most, but recently she has discovered mixing complements to produce beautiful grays. She loves working around other artists, which has become an important part of her social life. She does her best work at her own pace, usually painting four to five days a week, often at Mainstreet Art Center and in her home studio in Lake Zurich, Illinois.
The Sage Gallery features original pastel paintings and prints
by Dotty Carringi. Her exhibit is titled “Moods and Mysteries”. She strives to create a mood with dramatic lighting, interesting shapes and expressive colors, while concentrating on value, composition and color temperature. When searching for subject matter, she likes exploring both the natural and man-made worlds.
Her artwork continually evolves through experimenting and attending workshops, most recently with some excellent teachers including: Frankie Johnson, Susan Ploughe, Jan Berglund, William Schneider, Dawn Emerson, Doug Dawson, Sally Strand and Margaret Dyer. To see more samples of her work, visit www.dottycarringi.com. She also runs a graphic design business, DotDesigns, in Cary. To learn more about her business visit www.dottydesigns.com. Dotty's work has also been shown at Art in the Barn in September 2011 and at the Woodstock Courthouse from 2009 to 2011.
