Man Sentenced In Nail Gun Attack, Home Invasion
Edward J. Zegers has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

MCHENRY, IL -- A 53-year-old Cary man who forced his way into a home near Cary in July 2017 and attacked a person with a construction-style nail gun has been sentenced. Edward J. Zegers was ordered to serve 12 years in prison as part of a negotiated plea deal, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office. Zegers pleaded guilty to charges of domestic battery and home invasion.
Authorities took Zegers into custody on July 2, 2017, after responding for a report of a domestic disturbance at a home in the 7300 block of Swan Way in unincorporated Cary at about 1:40 a.m., police said. When sheriff's office deputies arrived, they found one victim outside the residence bleeding from the head and face. Authorities found Zegers inside a bedroom in the residence, according to police. He also had facial injuries.
Zegers is accused of forcing his way into the the residence and attacking one victim with a construction style nail gun. A fight followed with the victim sustaining injuries to the head and face. Zegers was also injured during the attack.

The victim was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital and was treated and released. Zegers was also transported to the hospital and later released into McHenry County Sheriff's Office custody.
