McHenry County Election Results: UPDATED

The unofficial results are in.

The unofficial voting tallies are in for McHenry County races.

Besides the presidential election, which everyone continues to watch closely this morning after Donald Trump was elected Tuesday to the post, McHenry County had several local races that appeared on voters ballots on Election Day. There are also many state senate seats and congressional races, which represent towns in McHenry County, that are up for grabs.

In the first election for the McHenry County Chairman post, Jack D. Franks won over Michael Walkup, according to unofficial results posted on the McHenry County Clerk's Office Wednesday morning. Franks pulled in 79,100 votes over Walkup's 58,386.

A successful 2014 referendum changed the way the chairman is chosen. In the past, the 26-member county board selected the official.

In the McHenry County State's Attorney race, Assistant State's Attorney Patrick Kenneally slammed Woodstock lawyer Ray Flavin winning with more than 63 percent of local votes. Keneally will replace Lou Bianchi, who has been the state’s attorney since 2004.

City of Crystal Lake Advisory Referendum

Crystal Lake voters appeared opposed to an advisory referendum that requested funds to construct a replacement library building adjacent to the existing library, according to early unofficial results. As of Wednesday morning, 55.59 percent of voters voted "no" to the following advisory referendum question:

Shall bonds in the amount of $30,100,000 be issued by the City of Crystal Lake, McHenry County, Illinois, on behalf of the Crystal Lake Public Library, for the purpose of constructing a replacement library building adjacent to the existing library and acquiring necessary furnishings and equipment, which amounts to an estimated increase of $132 per year for a $200,000 market value home?

Algonquin-LITH Fire Tax Referendum

Residents living in the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District were again asked this election to vote on a tax to help cover declining revenue during the Nov. 8 general election. Voters approved the following referendum question:

ALGONQUIN FIRE DISTRICT: Shall the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, Kane and McHenry Counties, Illinois, be authorized to levy a new tax for emergency and rescue crews and equipment purposes and have an additional tax of .10% of the equalized assessed value of the taxable property therein extended for such purposes?
(1) The approximate amount of taxes extendable at the most recently extended limiting rate is $8,861,489, and the approximate amount of taxes extendable if the proposition is approved is $9,758,419.
(2) For the 2016 levy year the approximate amount of the additional tax extendable against property containing a single family residence and having a fair market value at the time of the referendum of $100,000 is estimated to be $33.33.
