Child Died After Drowning In Fox River Grove: Coroner

The drowning occurred in the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue on Friday morning, according to authorities.

FOX RIVER GROVE, IL — A child died after drowning in Fox River Grove last week, authorities said Monday.

McHenry County Coroner Michael Rein said the drowning occurred on Friday. The Fox River Grove Police Department contacted the coroner's office to investigate the drowning, according to a news release from the Fox River Grove Police Department.

Preliminary findings from an autopsy show the minor drowned. Toxicology results are still pending, authorities said.

The drowning occurred at 6:35 a.m. Friday in the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue, and the child was pronounced dead at the scene, Fox River Grove Fire Department Deputy Chief Eldee Jackson told the Daily Herald.

The drowning is the fourth drowning incident in Lake and McHenry counties in recent days. A 35-year-old Schaumburg man died following an incident at Fort Sheridan Beach in Lake Forest; a 3-year-old died after drowning in a pool in Lake Villa on Saturday; and a boy has been hospitalized after wandering away from home in Lake in the Hills. The boy was later rescued from a pond by golfers.
