PRAIRIE GROVE, IL — Prairie Ridge High School joined a growing number of area schools that will have its students return to remote learning after an influx of coronavirus cases within the school and a growing positivity rate locally. The high school transitioned to remote learning on Tuesday, and students will continue to receive instruction from home for the rest of the week.

Community High School District 155 officials said the decision to close Prairie Ridge came after the McHenry County Department of Health informed them that the high school was under evaluation due to the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases. "Out of an abundance of caution" D155 officials decided to switch to remote learning.

The McHenry County Department of Health works with District 155 administrators, as well as administrators throughout the county, to determine if they should close a school. Several factors would impact the decision to close a school including the McHenry County Department of Health’s Decision Metrics, which include the COVID-19 incidence rate, test positivity, hospital admissions for COVID-19 like illnesses and increases in the weekly count of new cases.

The building capacity for D155 schools is between 1,800 to 2,000 for each high school and roughly 500 students attend each day in the hybrid model, according to the District 155 website.
