Students Explore Self Esteem During Art Contest
Donna L. Vestal Fund provides scholarships to winners of student art show.
A reception, presentation and awards ceremony was held May 6 at the for the Adolescent Allies Art Show.
The show was open to all McHenry County high school students who presented their artwork reflecting this year’s theme: Self Esteem: Body, Mind or Soul, at in Crystal Lake from May 2—9.
Over 100 people attended the event and heard a brief educational info-session that focused on and raised awareness of today’s issues surrounding sexual assault such as “sexting,” date rape drugs and consent.

The event, sponsored by the Donna L. Vestal Fund and presented by VOICE Sexual Assault Services, provided college scholarship money to the winners.

- First place: $1,000 scholarship—Grace Baker, Prairie Ridge High School
- Second place: $500 scholarship—Emily Riechers, Johnsburg High School
- Third place: $250 scholarship—Anna Fredrick, Cary Grove High School
- Fourth place: #250 scholarship—Porschye Martyne, Cary Grove High School
