Two Questioned in Connection With Gliniewicz Death File Lawsuit

The civil rights complaint was filed Monday in federal court.

Two men who were questioned and pursued as suspects following the death of Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz have now filed a lawsuit in federal court against the Fox Lake Police Department.

The lawsuit claims Preston Shrewsbury and Manuel Vargas, were "seized, held, questioned and searched by numerous law enforcement officers on several occasions" between Sept. 1 and Sept. 4, according to a press release from Gregory E. Kulis, of Gregory E. Kulis & Associates Ltd., which was posted on the WGN-TV website. Gregory E. Kulis & Associates is handling the nine-count civil rights complaint, which was was filed against Fox Lake, Libertyville, Fox Lake Chief Michael Behan, Libertyville Detective Kapusinski and "numerous unknown officers."

"There are no facts which would support probable cause to take these individuals in custody and constantly harass them," Kulis said in the press release.

Gliniewicz was found shot dead on the morning of Sept. 1 in Fox Lake and in the days immediately following the death, police conducted a massive manhunt as they searched for men they believed had killed the veteran officer. It was later learned Gliniewicz actually took his own life after he spent years embezzling from the Fox Lake Explorers Program, which he ran.
