MCHENRY COUNTY, IL -- A McHenry County woman faces a possible prison sentence for stealing money from her employer. A Kane County jury today convicted 33-year-old Erin J. Noffs of Island Lake of theft, Class 2 felony. The jurors deliberated for just more than 2 hours before reaching the verdict, according to a news release.
Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Kelli Schmidt and Julie Gerding presented evidence that between October 2014 and October 2015 Noffs stole approximately $50,000 from her Elgin-based employer by inflating her pay on payroll checks. Noffs worked for the business as the office manager.
“This is not a victimless crime. Financial crimes such as this often cause serious hardships to businesses that are vital to a thriving community. Thanks to ASAs Schmidt and Gerding, and to the Elgin Police Department for its thorough investigation,” said Kane County ASA William Engerman, the chief of the office’s Criminal Trials Bureau.
